A dragon fly in my parents' back yard. These things can be hell to sneak up on in mid afternoon, but occasionaly they need to rest and warm up, so they let you get within inches of them if you are careful. They are a favorite subject of mine. why they pose like this, I can only guess, Balance, releasing pharamones?
